These four simple strategies may take months to incorporate into your life on your own. But by using memory tricks - the art of association - you can break bad habits or even start new ones.

Here's how.
1. Whenever you think of taking a shower, associate the water with drinking water. The immune system needs a working lymphatic system. Without enough water during the day, your lymphatic system is sluggish and your colon is sluggish as well. Thus water drinking boosts the immune system by helping it flush out the toxins.

Here's a trick that works in the morning: First, set a liter or quart sized bottle next to your shower in the bathroom. Right before you get into the shower, you have about 45 seconds before the water temperature gets to the correct temperature to keep you happy in the shower. Fill up the bottle with filtered water and while waiting for the water to warm up, drink 8 oz. water. Then while you're in the shower, drink the next 8 oz. You can build up this amount of water to a full quart that is drunk in the morning. You'll be amazed at what this one simple habit does for your colon and immune system.

2. Associate waiting with nourishment. When grocery shopping, make sure you buy a few extra servings of high antioxidant fruits such as oranges or tangerines, While unpacking your groceries, throw two oranges or tangerines in your purse in a plastic bag. Then when you're waiting for the students to enter into the classroom or your children to jump into the car after school, find your high antioxidant fruit and eat it. The association here is waiting means nourish yourself with antioxidant fruits. Just for being patient, your body wins an antioxidant fruit. Easy enough? Sure, and don't forget the handy wipes or napkins!

At the moment that they call, excuse yourself for a moment and go grab a carrot, a green onion, or chips and salsa loaded with hot peppers. While you're listening to them, eat your healthy immune-boosting food. If you're concerned about them hearing you munch, you can cover the phone or put them on speaker. It's always good to let them know what you're doing because it sends a message to them that your body is important to take care of and this is the only time you can work it into the day. Thank them for giving you the opportunity.
